Happy and Proud

The election is FINALLY over. No more political commercials. No more campaigning. No more drama. Now we can move forward. Now our country can begin to repair.

There has been a lot of talk about the issue of having a black president. People find it the end of a great nation. I find it the beginning of a legacy. There is no denying that the fact a black man is set to lead our nation is monumental. I might not have voted for him and I might disagree with some of his viewpoints. But because I love my country more than a political party, I am glad to call President-Elect Obama the leader of my country.

In the church my family and I belong to, we have thirteen points that easily sum up the fundamentals of our beliefs. They are called the Articles of Faith. Number twelve states, "We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law." So for that matter, I support President-Elect Obama because I love my Father in Heaven. Do I believe that Barack Obama was foreordained to lead our country? Possibly. But I am sure he was destined to do great things.

So here is to four new years. No matter what an election might bring, I am grateful to live in a place where I am safe and able to worship as I wish.

Hi there! I ran into your blog through Lizzy - and just had to echo your sentiments. I didn't vote for Obama, but I will absolutely support him as my president. I'm excited for him and for this historic occasion. It's very exciting!

And I'm excited elections are over (finally!)

LOVE this post. I'm really excited about the next four years too. Viewpoints and morals are two different things.
We are blessed to live in this country. Have you read "Stand for Something: 10 Neglected Virtues" by Gordon B. Hinckley? I have such a greater appreciation for our country after reading that. This country was truly established for the restoration of the gospel.

Beautifully stated. I wish everyone - both sides of the politic aisle - shared your view!

I agree. I hope more people have the same opinion. And I truly am sick of the political ads, it seemed like there were way more this time around than previously.

Thank you so much for your beautiful post. I live in a part of the country where people are acting like the end is near, and I find it so troublesome. I appreciate that you can be so positive even if you didn't chose the current situation. Thanks. Oh, and I love your blog. :-)

Okay, I love your post because well I love you. But, I so wish I had your feelings about our new President elect. I really want to be the bigger person and support Obama but there is a little part of me that wants to say "I will give your president the same respect you gave my president." I hope he does good for this country but I have my doubts and only time will tell. Afterall, I can always say don't blame me...I voted for McCain. Love and miss you lots!!

I feel exactly the same way about this:

'I might not have voted for him and I might disagree with some of his viewpoints. But because I love my country more than a political party, I am glad to call President-Elect Obama the leader of my country.

It's time to embrace our new president and get back to being One Nation Under God. I may not be a fan of many of his ideals, but any president of my country will get my full respect and support.

I think I linked here from CJane to Lizzie (or something like that). Great recipes!
