Chocolate Streusel Coffee Cake

I like dessert for breakfast, especially cake. So then that classifies donuts and coffee CAKE as dessert for breakfast. If it's chocolaty, even better.

Chocolate for breakfast? Sure and I'll have seconds.

This would be an great breakfast treat for your house guests to wake up to. Even if your house guests happen to be your spouse and your children. They will love it.

1 1/2 cup flour
3/4 cup sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
3/4 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup butter, cut into small pieces
2/3 cup buttermilk
1 egg
1 tsp pure vanilla extract

Chocolate Streusel Topping
1/4 cup flour
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
3 Tbsp butter, cut into small pieces
1/4 cup semi sweet chocolate chips

Set oven to 350 degrees. Grease an 8 inch square pan and set aside.

In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Whisk to combine. Add butter and cut into coarse crumbs with a pastry blender. Add buttermilk, egg and vanilla. Beat with a hand mixer on medium speed for 1 minute, or until well blended. Spread in pan.

In a small bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, cocoa powder and butter. Using a pastry blender, cut butter into coarse crumbs. Sprinkle over the top of the batter. Sprinkle chocolate chips on top.

Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool for 15 minutes. Serve warm.

I think that looks delicious and maybe I will make it this weekend. I think we will be having Ethan's Mac and Cheese again this weekend (it has become requested when we have dinner with my family, I make it).

Oooh, that really does look delicious. My husband loves coffee cake and I'm always looking for ways to change it up. Chocolate is the perfect way, in my book!

You're killin' me with these chocolate recipes when I can't eat chocolate for 3 1/2 more weeks. Ok, so I *could* eat it, but I just want to prove to myself I am not addicted.

Gotta go wipe my mouth...it's watering.

Oh, and will do on the okra recipe!

I'm a big fan of breakfast & dessert. So cake in the morning is just about perfect though I'm not certain how my required 4 slices of crispy bacon are going to taste with it!
