Fess Up No. 7

My little Vanny loves watermelon. He sees it and starts going bananas and can't calm down. If I don't stop him, he eats the rind. I think his record is four slices in one sitting.

What is your favorite summer produce? What do you wait all winter for? Corn? Peaches? Tomatoes? Cherries? Blackberries? Zucchini? Strawberries? Watermelon? Fess up and tell me what it is that you have been gorging yourself on.

Strawberries. I'm SOOOO picky about them. I seriously sniff every.single.package until I find the one that knocks me over with its strawberriness. Then I eat them all in one sitting.

'tis the watermelon for me as well, I can't get enough. And now that the Utah melons are finally coming on I'm so excited I can hardly contain myself. There's one in my fridge right now, because I like it cold.

It's strawberries AND watermelons for us. We get giddy when we see the big bins of watermelon sitting in the front of the grocery store. As for strawberries, I just take for granted that they are only $2.00 now but when they are out of season I about fall over when I have to spend $6.00 and then I start missing them because I DO NOT spend that much.

NECTARINES.

Celestial food. Food of the gods. Nectar of sweetness. Am I clear?

All of the berries, especially blackberries. Also summer squash (roasted w/olive oil, salt and pepper) and cherries, Raniers if I can afford them.

Strawberries for sure! And zucchini. And while it's not the thing I wait for all summer, my kids love it, so I've been making tons of applesauce this year! Gotta build up that food storage.

Raspberries and tomotoes. But only from a real garden (meaning my moms) because grocery store tomatoes and raspberries are tasteless mush.

And I litterally do wait and crave all winter.

Cherries. And corn (being from Minnesota, Corn Capitol!) and of course, summer tomatoes. This year I've been absolutely ga-ga over everything!!! I've gone nuts for eggplant, zucchini, beets....it's been great.

But seriously, all I want now is watermelon.

Blackberries! Until this year (& blogging) I never knew I liked 'em. I've even been eating them BAKED in desserts and normally don't like warm mushy fruits.

Peaches. Oh how I love peaches. Not just the fruit itself, but all the desserts you can make with them. Peach Cobblers, Peach Crisps, Lattice Peach Pie, Peach Jam. And canning them. Spending the day filling up 60 quart jars of peaches. Knowing they'll be down in the cold storage all winter long. Never fails, just as we start running out of jars of peaches, it's peach season again and we get to restock.

And I love the trips up to Brigham City to get some fresh Peach Pie from Maddox. Wanna go this year? The peaches will be on in another week or two. Driving the stretch of road with all the fruit stands. Love. It.

The countdown has begun. Another couple of weeks and peaches are on again. Woo hoo!

I love me some vine ripe tomatoes...but we moved last fall and didn't make a garden a priority this year and I have totally regretted it! I haven't even bought any tomatoes at the store because I just can't imagine cutting one up to eat on my toast with mayo if it wasn't my own homegrown variety...

Oh man! That is hard. We love all of it around here!! The kiddos absolutely love String Beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, BLUEBERRIES (we pick them), Strawberries, peaches, corn, Watermelon(Maycie could eat the whole thing!). I LOVE yellow squash and BEETS and can't get enough, although that is not something everyone else here likes. We are summer veggie lovers! We go through produce like wildfire. Luckily we have 3-4 produce stands with a few miles of us!

Oh my goodness! He doesn't even look like a baby any more!
My kids love watermelon & cantaloupe. Grapes are a good stand by. I think I burned them out on bananas-they yell when I offer one to them!
