I Heart Utah

I feel like I need to clarify. I miss California a lot, but the missing hasn't been replaced with hate for Utah. I love California, but I hate plenty about it. Like traffic on the 10 when we are trying to make it to the Friday evening endowment session at the LA Temple. Or the fact that there is a higher percentage of morbidly obese people who think a tank top is a right and not a privilege. And the schools in California are the things made of nightmares. See, plenty to detest.

So as obnoxious as people can be in Utah, they sure can in California. And there is a higher population so there are more obnoxious people there than here. I really didn't want my post about In-N-Out to turn into "Hate Utahns" fest and an e-mail I received confirmed that. Yeah, someone took the time to e-mail me all the reasons why they hate Utah. So I want to clarify that I don't hate where I live.

What do I love about Utah? The mountains are the first thing that comes to mind. I marvel at the way the mountainside neighborhoods disappear as you look upward to the jagged rocks and steep slopes. California doesn't have that. And what about the midsummer thunder storms that say hello and goodbye within twenty minutes? California just continues to scorch. Something we have really enjoyed is all the family activities and festivals. Each city has their own summer fest and they are all cheap and fun. California definitely doesn't have that.

My most favorite thing about Utah is something not too many people get to enjoy like I do. I get to have my sisters in Utah. I have 5 sisters and 4 of them live here and the other one visits almost monthly. It has been absolute bliss being around my sisters. So California can have their In-N-Out and I am totally fine with the separation.

But I still pine for a number 3, animal-style with a large diet Coke.

i'm visiting utah, and thinking of heading back to the 10, 101, and 110 makes me cringe. i love that we only have about 5 freeways here in utah, as opposed to the 5 freeways surrounding my apartment in LA. and the mountains? oh, how i miss them when i leave here...

If it makes you feel any better - I never thought you were a Utah hater.

California schools.....yes there are some crappy ones and definitely now that there is no money it is going to get even rougher, but many of are schools are very advanced and work at a faster pace than Utah.

Just thought you might like to know:)

you are so right on this one. seriously, I hate it when people who are overweight think it is sexy to show off their rolls.

I love Utah, but i still don't think it should have an in-and-out. I moved back to Nevada just recently because that is where my family is. FAMILY is the reason why where you live is amazing. I missed Vegas, but I will always crave those lush mountains and beautiful 65 degree days where you can go for a walk at midnight and not be frozen or sweating your balls off. (sorry if that was explict)

Just got back from Provo and SLC... It really is an awesome place to visit, but I don't think I could live there... I'd always be an outcast.

But it was nice to step back into oh... about 1974 for a few days.

I saw many girls with flowers in their hair (so pretty) and not ONE SINGLE tattoo! Hoo-ray!

I'm catching up on your past posts.

I'm with you on your every thought here. My feelings mirror yours.

And the issue with missing In-N-Out? That's covered. Driving to the library last week, my daughter and I saw a construction site. And, just what were they building? The sign said: "Coming Soon to Draper, Utah: In-n-Out." HUZZAH!

Ah...just read the In-n-Out post. When I lived in Cali, I was a SoCal In-N-OUt purist. But now that I've moved to Utah? I'm willing to share the love a little, especially if that means that I can have a double-double-animal-style and a vanilla shake.

Now, if only Vince's Spaghetti would decide to branch out here - all would be right with the world. Or, maybe also Grinder Haven in Ontario. And grandparents. all right...I'll never be completely content...I guess, it's good to not have everything I want. I might get a bit spoiled.
