Grandioso with a disappointing ending

I like to eat. But my kind of eating involves a lot of dishes. Piles and piles of them. Multiple dishwasher loads and scads of hand dishes. Soapy water, pruney fingers and lots of wet towels. But it is so worth it.

Grilled filet mignon with blue cheese pistachio crust
Cauliflower with brown butter and walnuts
Pesto mashed potatoes
Green leaf lettuce salad
and
my mother's voluptuous homemade rolls and soft butter

It's all the things dreams are made of. Both dreams of my appetite and the dishwasher. He was busy tonight.

We were celebrating Ethan's baby brother Chad's birthday. He made a few requests as to what menu he wanted and we cooked up a real feast. After such a grand meal, one would expect an extravagant dessert. Sadly, no. Chad wanted Funfetti cake for dessert. You know, the boxed stuff from Pillsbury. It would be inhumane of me to deny the birthday boy his favorite cake, so I made it. It was quite a disappointing end to such a fine feast. But the birthday boy should have his wishes come true, even if it is in the form of an $.88 box of Funfetti cake. Blah.

AHHHHHHHHH!!!!! My sister is the same way. She even buys the frosting in a can and eats it by the spoonful.

Seriously. I can handle eating fast food for your birthday dinner, if that's your thing, but PLEASE. PLEASE. You gotta have a homemade cake or at least one from a nice, reputable bakery.

*shudder*shudder*shudder*

(BTW--I take birthday cakes VERY seriously.)

Can I come over for dinner? :)
I totally agree with you on the cake. What is it with people and Funfetti? Is it the childhood memories?

Yum! And as long as you were involving dishes, why not a few more for home-made molten cake. Really? Funfetti? At least he knows how to have a gerat dinner.

LOL, I'm not even saying anything 'cause you know what? I like that funfetti cake, too. Can I defend myself and say it's the only ONE I like? :)

I know that yeast breads aren't your specialty but is there any way to get you to post your mom's fabulous roll recipe, I'm in search of a good one. She could even be a guest blogger!
