Fess Up No. 1

We all try hard to feed our children good stuff. We all are supposed to hate high fructose corn syrup, partially hydrogenated oils and preservatives. Organic is a goal we all aspire to, but let's face it ladies, that crap is expensive. I am proud of my son's eating habits, but I am not about to say they are perfect. So what food do you let slide? What thing do you let your babies indulge in that they really shouldn't?

What's Jack's? He drinks a lot of diet soda. If he sees an unattended can around the house, he attacks. I used to care, but I got sick of yelling at him all the time.

So fess up. What do you let slide? What is just not worth the food fight in your home?

Rand eats chocolate chips straight from the bag and I let her eat chocolate chip cookie dough straight from the tub! When she was little she ate butter. Talk about a bad mommy!!!

Kenners is like Jack and sips my diet coke when I have my back turned. I was NEVER allowed to drink soda as a kid!

JK is actually my best out of the three. His bad habit would have to be chocolate milk. He drinks it ALL THE TIME!!!!

Coffee. Both my girls love coffee. Most of the times they drink mine ... but sometimes I call uncle and just give them their own (very milked down) mug.

My two-year old is addicted to FROSTED shredded wheat! I NEVER HAD SUGARED cereal growing up unless we were on vacation! He won't eat much, so I am thrilled that he likes something that has a lot of fiber and is at least vitamin fortified!!

(I love your blog by-the-way! I made your apple pie on Sunday, IT WAS AWESOME!! Thanks for sharing your love and passion for cooking! Hope your burns heal quickly!)

sugar cereals.
and fruit snacks. so bad i know. the dentist told me that fruit snacks are pretty much the worst thing your kid can ever eat.

Although I may not have a child, my husband doesn't have the best eating habits. And try as I may to coax him into eating healthier foods (not like I'm that great of an example), he will just never give up his Coke. I'm so concerned for his teeth!

I have to admit that while we allow Bailey the occasional treat, we are pretty rigid with her sugar intake. She experienced rootbeer for the first time in August and she fell in love. Yes, no soda until she was almost 4! But, we have had the experience of the dental bills on chilren with cavities (Morgan's daughter Lindsay) and it's surprising how much dental coverage doesn't allow on toddlers and youngsters!

I let my kids lick the brownie batter and cookie batter and...it's gross because it has raw egg in it but I loved it as a kid and I know they love it too. One time we made a boxed brownie and didn't even bake it because we ate all the mix right out of the bowl...GROSS!!!

i throw french fries WAY too often when i'm too lazy to cook and we go for fast food.

although yesterday he was dipping them in pureed carrots instead of ketshup ... that's healthy right?!

oh and i saw on your twitter that you're looking into homemade baby food ... i totally did that for aidan when he was a baby. so i have a bunch of recipes, etc. if you want.

I must confess....sugar ceareals. I was never allowed to have them only on Christmas. I promise it's not every day cuz my boys are more obsessed with pancakes.

Drive through crap. If they had organic wraps and sandwiches in a drive through in my hood, i'd be all over it. But what's a Mom to do? We get hungry and then come the chicken nuggets. Yuck. Yum. Whatever.
