And his name shall be...

Let it be known far and wide that I do not ever want pets.

With that being said, I can now tell you that divorce is on the table if we never get a Labrador. Yes, Ethan will throw in the towel if I renege on my promise to be cool about our family having a dog just like he did when he was a kid. His last dog was Black Jack and he was murdered. Okay, he wasn't murdered. He was put down because he was dying anyways. But Ethan still claims he was murdered because Black Jack didn't want to die.

I see a dog as just another child that needs to be fed and cleaned up after. As far as I am concerned, I already have two dogs, Jack and Van. And Van isn't even house-trained yet.

Although I hate the idea of a dog, I know it is inevitable and I need to start getting used to it now. While we wait for the time to get a Labrador, we are constantly on the lookout for dog names. Here are a few from over the years.

Danny Zucko
Bobby Kick (Jack's first imaginary friend)
Dude (the most recent one)
Pork Chop (my favorite)
Solomon
Brian

I think that since I am the one who doesn't like dogs, I should get to choose the name, right? See, I knew you would agree.

I hope this does not stem from living with Gus. He really is a good boy.

Pork Chop is awesome but being a fan of family guy, I think Brian is hilarious.

whitney....you have hit the proverbial nail on the head! dogs are kids.....and kids are dogs. for me, it really boils down to the poop factor. how much more poop am I going to be dealing with? when we got emma (whose name SHOULD be pork chop....or Jabba The Dog), I was responsible for FOUR BUTTS....including my own.

thankfully those days were short lived. I have officially washed my hands of dog poop duty. that's what eight-year old sons are for.

good luck with the process of giving in to living with a dog.

and for what its worth, a lab is the only other dog that will coexist with this human. so good choice of breed, in my opinion. I had a chocolate lab, flicka, about 15 years ago. she was a dream!

You don't know me...but I LOVE you blog and have tried several of your reciepes with great sucess.

I too was in your boat. My husband said we had to get a Lab. Now, I love my dog, but I wish someone had warned me that...LAB SHED A LOT! THE hair gets EVERYWHERE.
A dog is great and a lab is a great dog, but be prepared for the hair.

I remember Black Jack. Poor doggy got hit by a car. He was HUGE too.

I'm a fan of
Fred
Chuck
Bob

You should be able to pick the name.
Maybe you could procrastinate long enough so Jack will be old enough to pick up after Pork Chop.

Love, LOVE your blog! Thanks for commenting on mine :) Your cooking rocks therefore I agree you should get to choose! Pork chop is very cute but I have to say, I'm leaning towards Dude. Great name!

A couplathings. I had no idea how to spell "renege" until today. You have done your service for the day and can therefore reap the benefits thereto.

As names go, I like Brian. But "Nuge" and "Norm" are good ones too.

Just don't let Ethan take him to the "ranch" when things don't go well :).....

I love dogs, just not in *my* home. Hmmm...I also thought if we did have a dog I would name it "Cooper," my mother-in-law's maiden name. We toyed with naming G or R "Cooper" but then imagined all the things is rhymes with, primarily "pooper." So, I figure it is my reserve dog name.

Yes, you definitely get naming rights. Fo Sho.

I like Dude, because well, its funny... but the dog would think Ethan was calling him all the time because "dude" is a very frequent term with him... So that one, may be out... Too bad.

I told my hubby that as soon as our last kid is potty trained I may consider taking on a dog. One thing at a time. It's good you are resigned to your fate--and you should totally get to pick the name!
