Wow, I'm a mom

Brothers they be.

Do you ever have days where you say to yourself, "Wow, I'm a mom." It's those days when everything seems to go wrong at the same time and you find yourself knee deep in it. I have had a few of those days. And unfortunately, they always seem to involve baby bowel movements.

On Sunday, I had a "Wow, I'm a mom" day. First, Van had a major explosion all over his crib. I found myself washing, scrubbing, bathing and opening windows for fresh air. It seemed to catch me off guard, as most "Wow, I'm a mom" moments do.

Then after church, Jack's teacher had to pull Ethan aside and explain to him how wretched our child has been for months. I had been living in some separate dimension thinking he was singing and listening as he should. So on Sunday night, I found myself marching my little 4 year old up to his teacher's house so he could apologize for his poor conduct and leave her with a promise of better behavior. As we drove away, I kept thinking, "Wow, I'm a mom".

Do you ever have days like that? I find them valuable. They keep me on my guard and remind me to stay on my toes. Just when I think we are settling into a groove, we get a little jolt and hopefully someday, we can look back and laugh.

Sidenote: Advise needed. Van has this rash around his mouth from it being wet all the time because he chews on everything. Any tips on how to get rid of it?

I don't know how old Van is but one of my kids had a rash around their mouth and I eliminated all baby food containing citric acid. Went away quickly and so did the diaper rash with it.

Try Aquaphor by Eucerin. It's like vaseline, but it sticks better. It should help keep it protected so it can heal up.

I use Aquaphor on my baby girl (she's about the same age as your son, Van) and she slobbers a lot too. I swear by it, and sometimes if it's really dry I put a little Balmex on it. Both products are like vaseline, and they do work well plus they don't have a scent.

A&D ointment - cures everything.

I like using Cetaphil. The original cream that comes in a cylinder container. I used it for my son's rash and it cleared up in just a few days.

I agree with the A & D ointment. My oldest licks his lips and the outside gets severely chapped. The A&D clears it quicker than anything else .... and when they are older they can't stand the thought of having "butt" stuff put on their face, so it is working on breaking the bad habit, too!

you are a great mom.
the rash? my kids have horrible skin, and both have had bouts of the "sucks on everything" mouth rash. though theirs were both from their binky's, same idea. we used cetaphil AND aquaphor. (walmart has a knock off brand of each, both are WAY cheaper than the original) we use both because buffy taught me the difference between a healer and a protectant. cetaphil cured it, aquaphor kept it from coming back. she gave me a sweet recipe for moisture bum rash too, equal parts of malox and aquaphor. maybe you could use that on the chin too?
i like this post too btw, a glimpse of the cooks life:)
