Honeydew Agua Fresca

Nope, this isn't lime Kool-Aid. It's honeydew agua fresca and it as refreshing as can be. It tastes like drinking honeydew, if that makes any sense. It is best enjoyed on a hot afternoon while your children are napping. And the colder the better.

1 large honeydew melon, cut into chunks
1/2 cup sugar, divided
2 Tbsp lemon or lime juice, divided
4 cups cold water

Set a fine mesh strainer over a large bowl and set aside.

In the bowl of a food processor, add half of the honeydew, 1/4 cup sugar and 1 Tbsp lemon juice. Process until smooth. Pour honeydew mixture into the strainer. Let mixture drain. Pour liquid into a pitcher and discard the honeydew pulp. Repeat process with the other half of honeydew chunks. Add the water and stir well.

Serve cold over ice.

Rookie's Notes: By all means, try this with cantaloupe or watermelon or any fruit for that matter. I think pear would taste delicious.

I've gotten so hooked on aguas frescas this summer. My favorite is strawberry and mint. Mmm. So refreshing!

Ok, we are so on the same wavelength. I made watermelon Agua Fresca this weekend!

Of course, I made it for the OSU/USC game, and it didn't make me feel any better after that horrible loss!!

Yummy idea! Just 2 days ago Husband and I enjoyed a watermelon-ice-cold water blender combo (strained, of course). So delish. I can't wait to try this with lime juice and perhaps some spearmint sprigs. I do love melon.
